The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) and the Association of Utility Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC) jointly organized the first activity of the program to strengthen regulatory institutions in the field of energy launched under the auspices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the form of a Peer-to-Peer forum on the evaluation of investment plans in electricity transmission, from February 7 to 9, 2023 in Rabat.

The opening ceremony was led by His Excellency Mr. Puneet Talwar, United States Ambassador to Morocco, and Mr. Abdellatif Bardach, President of ANRE, who welcome this opportunity to further strengthen ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States. His Excellency Mr. Talwar, emphasized that “today, the United States and Morocco are expanding their partnerships in the field of energy regulation and committing to act together to fight against climate change while ensuring energy security”. He closed his intervention by welcoming the efforts made in the Kingdom of Morocco in terms of renewable energies for a clean and sustainable energy future. The President of ANRE declared, on his part in his opening remarks, that the opportunities presented today in the Kingdom are the fruit of the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and of the Kingdom’s irreducible commitment to implement the national energy strategy to accelerate the energy transition within a solid regulatory framework. Mr. Bardach also said that this partnership will allow ANRE to keep an eye on new advances in the field of energy by engaging with all stakeholders and adopting a proactive and forward-looking approach to regulation. This forum saw the participation of experts in the field of regulation from the various States of the United States with a view to sharing their experiences with ANRE through an exchange of good practices and lessons learned on the fundamental aspects of evaluation. investment plans in the transmission of electricity in an efficient and autonomous manner. ANRE and NARUC are more committed to working together to promote effective regulation and support reforms in the Moroccan energy sector. NARUC is a non-profit organization that represents the regulatory commissions of public utilities, such as energy, telecommunications, electricity, water and transportation, of the 50 member states of the United States. The main mission of NARUC is to support the work of these commissions and ensure that they have the resources and support necessary to serve the public interest.
