Home > ANRE approves the national electricity system’s renewable hosting capacity, targeting 9338 MW by 2029
Rabat, January 31st, 2025 – In line with current legislative provisions and our nation’s drive to accelerate the energy transition, and under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, the Council of the National Authority for Electricity Regulation (ANRE) convened in Rabat on January 29, 2025, to approve and publish the national electricity system’s hosting capacity for the 2025–2029 period.
The hosting capacity is now set at 9338 MW—a 29% increase over last year. This significant milestone underscores the rapid expansion of the national electricity market and the commitment to delivering enhanced visibility for investors and developers in the medium term.
This achievement results from extensive consultation with all key stakeholders, ensuring that the hosting capacity accurately reflects the potential of both transmission and distribution networks.
The revised hosting capacity introduces enhanced flexibility by permitting the bidirectional transfer of unused capacity between transmission and distribution networks. This new measure complements existing provisions that allow transfers between distribution network operators and among substations managed by the same operator, thereby fostering a more balanced relationship between production and consumption and optimizing existing infrastructure.
By approving and publishing the hosting capacity, ANRE provides critical visibility for both public and private operators, as well as supervisory authorities. Working closely with the transmission system operator (ONEE) and various distribution system operators, ANRE has ensured that this capacity is determined with precision. This initiative delivers reliable data to all stakeholders, bolstering national energy policy objectives while maintaining the security and reliability of Morocco’s electrical grid.
