ANRE and CNMC of Spain sign a MoU for integrated and sustainable energy regulation

Madrid, 5th September 2024 – The President of ANRE, Mr. Abdellatif Bardach, and the President of the Spanish Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC), Ms. Cani Fernández Vicién, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) strengthening their collaboration in the field of energy regulation.

This initiative is part of the fraternal ties uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain, under the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, and opens the way to new prospects for energy cooperation.

During the ceremony, Mr. Bardach highlighted that this MoU is “a testament to our in-depth discussions and unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation within energy regulation. It focuses on critical technical elements such as tariffs, while upholding practices of transparency and fairness essential for an open and equitable energy market.

However, our ambitions extend beyond merely recognizing our achievements. This initiative is a cornerstone of a broader strategic approach designed to fortify and broaden our energy exchanges and interconnections. It reflects our profound dedication to enhancing regional integration and energy security, setting the stage for more dynamic and comprehensive future collaborations. This reinforces our joint resolve to tackle global energy challenges effectively.”

Following the signing ceremony, Mr. Bardach and Ms. Vicén reiterated their commitment to closely collaborate, aiming to establish this partnership as a model for international cooperation. They highlighted that this alliance reflects a strategic alignment of interests that benefits not only their respective countries but also the broader Mediterranean and African regions.

Additionally, they celebrated their joint leadership of the green hydrogen task force under the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators. This role underscores their critical contribution to advancing green hydrogen as an essential component of the energy transition. Their leadership exemplifies Morocco and Spain’s significant influence in shaping the development of renewable technologies and fostering a sustainable energy future for the region.
