Mr. Abdellatif BARDACH, President of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, was elected on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Vice-President of the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG), during its 30th General Assembly held online by videoconference, a technique imposed by the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this General Assembly, the members of the Presidency Board, composed of the President and three Vice Presidents, were elected for the period 2020-2022. They are: (i) Mr. Petrit AHMETI, as President (Albanian Energy Regulator – ERE); (ii) Mr. Abdellatif BARDACH, as Vice President (National Electricity Regulatory Authority of Morocco – ANRE); (iii) Mr. Karem MAHMOUD, as Vice President (Egyptian Gas Regulatory Authority – GASREG) and (iv) the permanent Vice President Mr. Stefano BESSEGHINI (Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment – ARERA). In addition to the election of the Presidency Board, the 30th General Assembly was also the occasion to elect the new Presidency of the working groups within MEDREG. The election of the Kingdom of Morocco to the position of Vice-President of MEDREG reflects the credibility of the Kingdom among international organizations and associations. It is also a recognition of Morocco’s tireless efforts in the fields of electric power and renewable energy, in line with the Royal High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Glorify and Assist Him. Indeed, this confidence placed in the National Electricity Regulatory Authority through its President, is the fruit of his permanent and constructive participation in all activities organized by the Association and also of his unwavering commitment to strengthen the leading role of the Kingdom of Morocco within the Association. In that sense, he has been careful to promote the exchange of experience and expertise with the Association members since the Authority’s accession in November 2018. This election took place only a few weeks after the first board meeting of the of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, which was an excellent opportunity for the approval of a set of resolutions, including the Authority’s Strategic Roadmap for the period 2021-2025.
