ANRE Showcases Morocco's Energy Leadership at the Powering Africa Summit in Washington

Washington DC, 6th March 2024 – The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) participated in the 9th edition of the Powering Africa Summit, held on 5th and 6th of March 2024 in Washington DC, United States. Bringing together key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders from North America and Africa, this event highlighted advancements and opportunities within the African energy sector.

Mr. Abdellatif Bardach, President of ANRE, represented the Kingdom of Morocco at this significant gathering. On the 6th March 2024, he participated in an exclusive roundtable discussion with energy regulators’ Presidents and representatives from the United States, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cape Verde, and others. This high-level meeting provided a platform to exchange insights on critical topics such as establishing cost-reflective tariffs and fostering regulatory environments conducive to renewable energies.

During his address, Mr. Bardach underscored ANRE’s recent initiatives, underscoring Morocco’s unwavering commitment to energy transition. He notably highlighted the innovative publication of hosting capacity through an interactive map on ANRE’s website, streamlining access to crucial information for investors interested in the Moroccan energy sector. Additionally, he discussed the recent publication of the tariff for transmission network usage, a strategic decision that brought transparency, fairness, and investor confidence, reaffirming ANRE’s dedication to fostering an investment-friendly climate and economic growth.

in his capacity as the President of the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG) and President of the Francophone Energy Regulators Network RegulaE.Fr, Mr. Abdellatif Bardach brought to light his extensive experience in collaborating closely with regulators across the Mediterranean and Africa. This collaborative endeavor is geared towards fostering the development of a regional energy market, with the primary goal of stimulating investment in infrastructure and facilitating increased cross-border electricity trade. These efforts align seamlessly with the steadfast dedication of the Kingdom of Morocco under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.

ANRE’s participation in the Powering Africa Summit highlighted Morocco’s leadership in the energy field, both regionally and globally. In addition to this important event, the President of ANRE held discussions with representatives from the United States Department of Energy and meetings with His Excellency the Ambassador of Morocco to the United States, aiming to strengthen cooperation ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration in the energy and regulation fields.
