For four days, from July 11 to 14, 2023, participants discussed a subject where Morocco is the continental vanguard: “off-grid electrification and the role of the regulator”.

The participation of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) was particularly rich and noted. Indeed, two members of the ANRE Board took part in the work of this workshop.

Energy regulators from 32 French-speaking countries met in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Kinshasa, for the 12th workshop of the Francophone Network of Energy Regulators (RégulaE.Fr). For four days, from July 11 to 14, 2023, participants discussed a subject where Morocco is the continental vanguard: “off-grid electrification”. The participation of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) was particularly rich and noted. Indeed, two members of the ANRE Board took part in the work of this workshop. Mr. Khalid HENNIOUI presented Morocco’s successful experience in terms of universal access to electricity for the benefit of its citizens, detailing the process of rural electrification that the Kingdom has carried out over the past decades and the challenges of universal access to electricity on the African continent. In this register, the Global Rural Electrification Program (PERG) particularly caught the attention of the assistance in Kinshasa given the great achievements that have been accomplished thanks to its global character and its mode of participatory financing. For his part, Mr. Srhir BAALI led the debates of the working session devoted to national off-grid electrification programs analyzing examples of projects and the role of regulators. Among other contributions, he highlighted the common challenges and opportunities between African countries as well as the strategic nature of interconnections, particularly for the development of renewable energies in Africa. During this international event, the next General Assembly of the institution was also announced, which will take place in Rabat from November 22 to 25, 2023.
