ANRE's President participates in the 14th edition of the Energy Conference

Mr. Abdellatif BARDACH, President of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, participated on Monday, November 19, 2018, in the 14th edition opening ceremony and in the panel of the Energy Conference: "Energy Transition: what regional geostrategy by 2050", at the Mohammed VI International Conference Center in Skhirat.

This event organized by the Energy Federation with the support of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, and held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, focuses on the evolution of the energy transition and its integration into the regional geostrategic framework. It is intended to be a forum for exchange and debate on issues related to regional integration of energy transition.

The opening session of the Conference was attended by Mr. João GALAMBA, Portuguese Secretary of State for Energy and Mr. Jorge BORREGO, Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, as well as Moroccan, African and international energy operators.

Various other issues were raised, namely the rise of renewable energies, the development of the regional gas market and the integration of renewable energies in regional electricity systems and markets.

In addition, the strengthening of electricity interconnections with neighboring countries through the development of new electricity interconnections was referred to, namely with Spain (700 Mw) and Portugal (1,000 Mw) which is on the other hand the country in the spotlight at this 14th Energy Conference.

To this end, the second panel of the day dedicated to Energy Efficiency under the theme: “The integration of renewable energies in regional electricity systems and markets”, was attended by several internationally renowned speakers including the country of honor, Portugal, represented by Ms. Maria Cristina Portugal, president of the Portuguese Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERSE). The participants in this panel addressed the various challenges, the perspectives and the issue of balancing renewable energies and their volatility.

During this session Mr. Abdellatif BARDACH delivered a speech where he recalled that the Moroccan electricity market is mature and requires a regulatory authority able to give more transparency and credibility to all national and international investors. In this regard, the ANRE intends to fully accomplish the mission for which it is invested in a spirit of coordination with all operators, he winded up with “The ANRE; Guarantor of Accessible, Equitable and Sustainable Energy”.
